Network members benefit from direct access to COBRA’s Human Resources Department, which provides support and guidance in all matters relating to your employees, whether you need help putting together compliant documentation and staff policies, setting up and monitoring a Training and Competence regime, or guiding you through a difficult staff issue.
There is a host of HR related documents that your business will need to have in place, either to satisfy FCA compliance requirements or just to ensure that you protect your company by having a consistent and documented approach to dealing with staff.
Staff Handbooks, Contracts of Employment, Job Descriptions, Recruitment processes, Appraisal Systems and Disciplinary and Grievance procedures are all very important when running a business. We will provide you with draft documents and templates that are effective in an insurance broker so that you can adapt them to your own needs and do not have to “re-invent the wheel”.
As a cornerstone of the FCA’s regulatory regime, it is essential that you have a well thought out and consistent approach to training and competence, and that all training and learning is being adequately recorded effectively.
We will help you make use of facilities that are both cost effective and that add value to your business, both in terms of profitability, and the levels of service and competency that your employees can demonstrate to your clients within the ambit of Treating Customers Fairly. We will recommend suitable online T & C facilities and, with our buying power and expertise, negotiate excellent rates with organisations and training partners we can trust.
A user-friendly, flexible, on-line resource like Aviva’s Development Zone should form the framework around which a COBRA broker will be able to build their training and competence regime.
Paul Bryant, COBRA’s HR & Training Director, will always give you guidance and help both on the telephone and face-to-face where required when those tricky staff issues need dealing with. His assistance will help you to balance the commercial needs of running a small business with the restrictions of Employment Law, and although we stop short of giving legal advice, we will always help you make the best decisions for each set of circumstances. Disciplining or dismissing staff, dealing with a grievance, maternity leave and paternity leave, mediating workplace disputes, dealing with staff sickness are just some of the common staff issues that we have helped COBRA members with in the past.
You will be updated via email bulletins, newsletters and our website, about useful changes to the law which might affect the staff policies you have in place for your business.
As well as an external advisory role to the member brokers of COBRA Network, Paul oversees the internal HR function for COBRA, covering 4 locations and 150 staff.
